二零一零年,嶼巴及珀麗灣客運率先將國內青年客車帶進香港公共巴士巿場,讓巿民更易感受到國內製造的巴士乘坐感覺。事實證明了青年客車的確能夠發揮出跟歐洲品牌相若的表現,最有力的證據,除了兩家公司訂購新車作替換車輛時,青年客車仍然取得訂單外,機場酒店通及城巴亦先後成為青年客車在港的新客戶,當中城巴合共向青年訂購十六架新車,用作替換車隊中配捷聯車身的富豪B6LE。
城巴購入的青年型號為JNP6105GR,車身全長全長十點五米,較服役於嶼巴及珀麗灣客運,車身全長十二米的JNP6122GR略短,對於應付港島區路窄多彎的路面環境,可望有更出色的表現。青年JNP6105GR於外觀上,亦跟嶼巴及珀麗灣的青年有所分別,明顯差異是車頂四旁再沒有附加的旁板,從而令車頂的日本電裝空調機組清晰易見,至於電子路線牌箱則是採用城巴標準的Hanover牌箱。動力來源方面,城巴跟另外兩家營運商沒有分別,仍然是採用猛獅歐五引擎,搭配由福伊特出品的全自動波箱,青年同時亦是繼Scania K280UB樣板車後,城巴第二款採用引擎廢氣再循環技術(EGR),從而達到歐盟五型排放標準的車型。載客量方面,城巴青年JNP6105GR能夠提供二十八人座位以及三十三人企位。
城巴青年JNP6105GR是車隊中第二款中國製造的巴士,因為早於一九九零年城巴曾經引進北方尼奧普蘭BN316,用作開拓國內長途客車服務之用;而城巴亦是本港第二家採用中國製造巴士的專利巴士公司。首架城巴青年JNP6105GR於二零一二年六月初到港,隨即於六月七日被按安排進行驗車。城巴預留了1810 - 1825作為這批青年JN6105GR車隊編號,而前述的北方尼奧普蘭客車,當年車隊編號為1801 - 1803,這或多或少帶出兩者同是中國製巴士的微妙關係。首架獲登記是1811(RN819),於二零一二年七月三十一日登記,而餘下新車亦陸續於七月底運抵本港。1811於二零一二年八月十五日投入服務行走76路線,這條一直以富豪B6LE作主力的路線需要攀爬陡斜的香港仔水塘道及南風道,充分考驗青年巴士的能耐。隨著餘下青年巴士於同年八月到十月出牌投入服務,服役於營運一部的富豪B6LE亦隨之退役。除76外,城巴青年JNP6105GR目前主要見於行走11,12,12A及12M,除上述路線外,它們亦曾主力行走3B,25A,41A,95C,314及B3M路線。
青年JNP6105GR於城巴車隊中所扮演的角色,多年來都沒有太大改變,直到為了更新新創建訓練車隊,城巴於二零一九年十二月至二零二零年五月,先後將四架JNP6105GR(1812 - 1815)改裝成訓練巴士,改裝完成的青年訓練巴士,除了加裝導師專用座位,以及取消所有企位後,其餘二十八個座位獲得保留,成為本港最高載客量的訓練巴士,而在新巴城巴社交媒體專頁中,亦提及到這批訓練巴士除了執行日常車長培訓工作外,亦會於颱風襲港日子,作為員工接送車之用。另外,1812及1814在完成改裝後,分別被換上原訓練巴士車隊前輩的HD8873及GC7776車牌。全數四架青年訓練巴士陸續改裝完成後,於二零二零年六月到七月分別完成改裝後,於同年七月上旬開始接替訓練車隊中的富豪超級奧林比安,開始培訓車長工作。
After the introduction of YoungMan by NLB and Park Island Transport Co., Ltd. in 2010, it becomes more easy for commuters travelled by a China made buses in Hong Kong public bus market. It was no doubt that YoungMan performed well and this can be proved by further orders for YoungMan were not only for NLB and Park Island Transport, but also for Hotelink and City Bus.
City Bus placed an order for 16 YoungMan JNP6105GR in 2011 as a replacement of the Jit-Luen bodied Volvo B6LE, the most distinctive difference between the JNP6122GR of NLB and Park Island was all of them were 10.5m in length. The shorter length can enhance their maneuverability when serving the route with narrow road conditions in the Islands. To go one step further, it was easy to observe the roof-mounted air-conditioning unit supplied by Nippon-Denso as no more extra surroundings fitted on the roof as seen on the NLB and Park Island Transport YoungMan. Hanover electronic route display was chosen and the YoungMan JNP6105GR was powered by MAN with Voith fully automatic transmission, with the help of Exhaust Gas Recirculation technology, JNP6105GR can meet the Euro 5 emission standard and it was the second bus model to apply EGR technology in City Bus fleet. The total carrying capacity of the YoungMan was 61 passengers with 33 standees provided.
YoungMan JNP6105GR was the second bus model made in China in the fleet after the 3 Norinco Neoplan BN316 (1801 - 1803) acquired in 1990 and City Bus was the second franchised bus operator to introduce China made bus model in Hong Kong. The first JNP6105GR was delivered in early Jun., 2012 and was undergone approval test on 7 Jun., 2012. City Bus classed the YoungMan JNP6105GR as 1810 - 1825 and the first of the type (1811/RN819) was registered on 31, Jul., 2012, while the remaining JNP6102GR were started to deliver by the end of Jul., 2012 and entered service between Aug. and Oct., 2012. Following their commission, all Volvo B6LE in the City Bus Operations Department One were then gradually withdrawn from service. On 15 Aug., 2012, 1811 was first entered service on route 76 passing through Aberdeen Reservoir Road and Nam Fung Road, both are very steep and could be a good test platform for the performance of the YoungMan. Besides 76, YoungMan currently served on route 11, 12, 12A and 12M and once serving passengers on route 3B, 25A, 41A, 95C, 314 and B3M.
The role that YoungMan played in City Bus almost the same through the years until the renewal of training bus fleet of NWS Transport, 4 of the YoungMan JNP6105GR (1812 - 1815) were chosen for the conversion to training bus between Dec., 2019 and May, 2020. An instructor seat was fitted with all standees removed but seatings were retained and made them become the highest carrying capacity training bus in Hong Kong. Instead of the training duty, as mentioned in the Facebook page of NWFB and City Bus, YoungMan driver trainers can also as staff bus during typhoon. The original registration number of 1812 and 1814 were changed to HD8873 and GC7776 respectively which used to register on the Super Olympian training bus they replaced. The YoungMan training bus started their training duty since Jul. 2020 after the conversion works completed.
