日產柴油 U31RCN Nissan Diesel U31RCN

這是新加坡公共巴士巿場中最後的一款日本製造巴士,並已經全數於二零一二年五月退出載客行列,出售到當地廢車場拆卸。

一九九二至九三年,SMRT前身TIBS的子公司,Singpore Shuttle Bus(SSB)為更新車隊,向日產購入共五十架U31RCN巴士,當中二十六架為空調巴士。不過當新車付運時,十六架空調新車被轉讓到TIBS,並以TIBS為開首的車牌作登記。餘下新車則陸續獲安排加入SSB,行走City Shuttle Service(CSS)路線,而車牌亦以CSS為開首。全數日產柴油巴士均於日本裝配富士重工提供的車身,然後付運往新加坡,而整個車身跟新加坡巴士一九八六年引進的U31SCN,以及TIBS及SSB早年購入的日產柴油巴士外觀相近,充滿百分百日本味道,尤其推拉式的中門,不過由於要預留空間收藏車門,無可避免地要犧牲若干車內空間。另外,這批日產柴油巴士,後置引擎動力來自自家出品,而全自動變速系統則是德國ZF出品,在當時來說,日本巴士配用全自動波箱是一個難得一見的配搭。

沒有裝設空調的日產柴油U31RCN,在服務CCS路線期間已經由SSB追加空調設備,跟本身是空調的U31RCN一樣,採用日本富士出品。二零零六年開始,SSB因應CSS網絡萎縮,以及配合SMRT需求,陸續將手上過剩的日產U31RCN轉到SMRT服役,當中首九架轉到SMRT日產巴士重新登記以TIBS為首的車牌(TIB1248D-1256E),餘下的則簡單地翻鬆SMRT標準車身色彩,直到退役為止,仍然保留CCS為首的車牌。

The Nissan Diesel U31RCN is the last Japanese made bus model in the Singapore public bus service and all of them were sold to scrapyard after their retirement in May, 2012.

Singapore Shuttle Bus (SSB), a subsidiary of TIBS acquired 50 Nissan Diesel U31RCN for upgrading the fleet. Among 26 of them were air-conditioned when new while others were as convention bus. When delivered, 16 of the air conditioned examples were to TIBS and registered with TIBS-prefix registration no. For the sample under SSB, they were widely used on City Shuttle Service(CSS) and registration plate was started as CSS-prefix. All Nissan Diesel U31RCN were received their Fuji Heavy Industries in Japan and then delivered to Singapore. The bodywork is 100% in Japanese style and looked resemble to the Nissan Diesel introduced by SBS, SSB and TIBS in 1980s. The bodywork featured with a rear sliding door and resulted in some room of the cabin need to sacrifice.

All Nissan Diesel U31RCN bus are rear-engined and powered by a Nissan engine, the fully automatic transmission was ZF product from Germany, a rare combination for Japanese bus at that time. SSB then fitted an air-conditioning unit of Fuji, same brand for the "Original Air Conditioned" U31RCN, on the non air-conditioned Nissan Diesel. As the CSS network reduced and need to strengthen the service of SMRT, SSB started to transfer the surplus U31RCN to SMRT since 2006. The first batch of 9 U31RCNs were re-registered to TIBS-perefix registration (TIB1248D-1256E) while the remaining, the original CSS-prefix registration was retained until their withdrawal.
