猛獅 NL323 MAN NL323

長久以來,德國平治一直為新加坡這個島國公共交通,提供源源不絕的動力,至於另一德國車廠猛獅,除了新加坡巴士公司曾經於一九八六年,引入一架配PSV車身的16.240,以及新捷運於二零零八年,接收一架裝有馬來西亞順豐車身的18.240 (A69)樣板車外,一直未見有其他來自新加坡公共巴士營運商的訂單,其中後者更在兩年試驗期之後被退回代理商。

直到二零零九到一零年間,SMRT在向平治購買一百三十四架OC500LE後,接收了四部様板巴士,計有來自中國的宇通ZK6126HGC,中通的LCK61261GHEV混合動力巴士,同屬平治的Citaro,以及猛獅NL323 (A22)。 在這次車型試驗中,德國車廠得到SMRT垂青,平治率先奪得兩批合共五十架新車合約,至於猛獅亦於隨後接獲二百架新車訂單,憑藉這張訂單,猛獅得以躋身新加坡公共巴士市場,成為其中一家主要供應商。

SMRT於二零一零年接收的猛獅NL323樣板車裝配有MCV車身,車廂內提供三十八個座位及五十二個企位,於同年十二月十七日登記後,獲得SMB138Y車牌,從車牌碼作計算,是上述四架樣板車中最後一架,但實際上是第三架登記並投入服務的樣板車。關於SMB138Y的車身裝嵌地方有兩個說法,一說是樣板車於MCV位於埃及的廠房完成,另一說法則如澳門新福利的丹尼士飛鏢一樣,由本地的順洲車身廠裝配。SMB138Y是新加坡首架使用內嵌式趟門巴士,車門開啟時先向外伸出,再向左右兩邊打開。

有感SMB138Y表現滿意,繼向平治購買新車之後,SMRT於二零一一年向德國猛獅發出二百架NL323新車購買合約,量產新車與樣板車最大分別在於車身由馬來西亞順豐裝配,獲得猛獅授權的Lion’s City Hybrid款式車身。部份新車包括首兩部量產NL323(SMB189A及SMB190U)於二零一一年九月投入服務時,更加披上宣傳新車的廣告色彩。早期新車仍然披有SMRT紅白為主色車的身色彩,但當SMRT推出以銀色作主色的車身色彩之後,往後的NL323新車亦改為披上這款色彩。

就在第一批新車仍在交付時候,SMRT再向猛獅購買二百零二架新車,並於二零一三年年初陸續交付及投入服務。同樣,第三批合共三百三十二架新車訂單,亦於第二批新車交付時候得到落實,而這個訂單亦成為歐五版本NL323最大的新車訂單,並於二零一四年七月投入服務。載客量方面,首二百七十八架新車可運載九十人,而往後新車在減少三個座位以增加企位後,載客量跟首批NL323多一人。

隨著二零一六年,新加坡巴士服務逐漸採用政府合約模式,所有巴士透過當局編配到有關營運商,行走相關招標路線。踏入二零一八年,NL323排放標準由歐五演變到歐六,陸路交通管理局亦有向猛獅購買合共二百五十架NL323新車,雖然車身仍然由順豐供應,但款式為同樣得到猛獅授權的Lion’s City,跟Lion’s City Hybrid最大分別,是缺少了車頂車頭的組件,載客量方面可以提供三十三個座位,五十三個企位以及兩個輪椅停泊位。歐六版本猛獅NL323於車廂增設了乘客資訊系統,以及USB插頭供乘客替電子儀器充電。

另外,有兩架MAN NL323巴士值得再作介紹,首先於二零一七年六月,繼三門版本的A95十二點八米雙層巴士後,陸路交通管理局再測試一架配用順豐Lion’s City Hybrid三門車身的NL323 (SG4002G),這部樣板車第三道車門設於左邊尾軸之後,在六個多月試驗期內,先後行駛190及901線。完成試驗後,巴士被送回代理商ST Kinetics便沒有再於路上服務乘客,一直到二零一九年十月,在一個智慧交通為主題的展覽會,再以智能巴士形象示人。

而於二零一八年二月,猛獅新加坡代理ST Kinetics,從SMRT車隊中回收一架歐五排放標準的NL323 (SMB3075A),以作試驗將柴油巴士改裝成以電力推動巴士。SMB3075A之後被運往芬蘭,由ST Kinetics的合作夥伴Linkker裝上由其設計,丹麥製造商Danfoss供應的組件的電力驅動系統。完成一切改裝後,這部猛獅電動巴士運返新加坡,新的登記車牌號碼為SG3100M,並於二零一九年十一月十一日,聯同另外的比亞迪及宇通電動巴士,一同於烏魯巴丹車廠亮相。值得一提是,這部改猛獅電動巴士除了能於車廠充電,亦可透過站頭充電設施,作快速充電以應付日常運作需要。

樣板巴士SMB138Y在新加坡行走兩年後,因為電子零件受水濺濕破壞,便從一直留在車廠等待維修,不過最終未有再次投入服務,並於二零一四年正式除牌,退回代理商後再由順豐重裝Lion’s City Hybrid車身,再被運往澳洲行走。至於部份屬第一批訂單中的NL323,亦已被SMRT改作訓練巴士之用,而另一架車牌SMB222L的NL323,則於二零一六年因遭貨車撞及車尾後起火,損毀嚴重而報銷拆毀。

現時在新加坡街頭除了平治Citaro及Scania K230UB外,不難發現猛獅NL323穿梭於大街小巷服務乘客,而車身色彩亦已陸陸續續變成陸路交通管理局的標準綠色車身色彩。

Before 2010, MAN cannot gain any success as Benz which also came from Germany in the public bus sector in Singapore with only two demonstrators, a PSV bodied MAN 16.240 and a Gemilang bodied 18.240 (A69), served with SBS (later known as SBS Transit) and the later was even returned to dealer after the 2-years trial.

After the introduction of 134 OC500LE from Mercedes Benz, SMRT evaluated 4 different demonstrators included Yutong ZK6128HGC, Zhongtong LCK61261GHEV hybrid bus, Mercedes Benz Citaro and a MAN NL323 (A22).

During this competition, besides Mercedes Benz gained a total of 50 Citaro purchasing order, MAN was awarded an order of 200 NL323 and become one of the important manufacturers in the Singapore public bus market.

The MAN NL323 demonstrator was fitted with MCV bodywork which can accommodate 90 passengers with 38 seats offered. It was registered as SMB138Y on 17 Dec., 2010. It was the last demonstrator mentioned above according to the registration number, however, it was the third to be registered. There were two versions of the assembled place of SMB138Y, some said it was completed it bodywork in MCV plant in Egypt while another said that it received it bodywork locally with the help of Soon Chow. SMB138Y was the first public bus using sliding-plug doors which is pushed out of the door frame before sliding open.

The successful trial of SMB138Y resulted in a total of 200 NL323 purchasing order and the production units was bodied in Malaysia by Gemilang with Lion’s City Hybrid bodywork under the authorization from MAN. The Gemilang bodied NL323 can carry 90 passengers and part of the fist batch NL323 including SMB189A and SMB190U were decorated with a promotion livery when entering service in Sep., 2011. Early batch of NL323 was painted with standard SMRT white and red livery and since Jan., 2014, MAN NL323 was delivered with the “pixel” livery which introduced in Jan., 2014.  

A further order of acquiring 202 units was made during the delivery of the first batch of NL323, the second batch of NL323 was delivered and entered service since early 2013. SMRT made not only the last but also the largest purchasing order of NL323 with total 322 units ordered in the end of 2013 and started entering service since Jul., 2014. The first 278 NL323 can accommodate 90 passengers with 38 seats offered while the remaining Euro 5 variants provided 35 seatings and 56 standees.

Bus Contracting Model (BCM) was gradually implemented since 2016, all buses were owned by LTA and assigned to different operators according to the tender packages. LTA ordered a total of 250 Euro 6 NL323 built with MAN Lion’s City bodywork built under license by Gemilang in 2018. Total 86 passengers with 53 standees and 2 wheelchairs parking bay provided, USB chargers and passengers information display systems also can be found in this batch of NL323.

There were two NL323 should be mentioned in detail among the whole family. The first was a 3 doorways demonstrator (SG4002G) along with a 12.8m MAN A95 demonstrator which also fitted with 3 doorways Gemilang bodywork in Jun., 2017. SMRT deployed SG4002G on route 190 and 901 during the 6-months trial period. After completion of the trial, SG4002G was returned to ST Kinetics, the dealer of MAN in Singapore and converted into a Smart Bus and first showed to the public at the ITS World Congress Singapore 2019 exhibition.

Another MAN NL323, SMB3075A was returned to ST Kinetics in Feb., 2018 for the project of conversion to electric bus. It was shipped to Finland where the partner of the dealer Linkker located. Electric driveline supplied from a Danish manufacturer Danoss was fitted on this NL323. Instead of charging at depot, this bus can be recharged at terminus through roof-mounted charging rails. This electric version NL323 shipped back to Singapore and re-registered as SG3100M, it was first showed to the public at Ulu Pandan depot together with the BYD K9 and Yutong E12 electric bus on 11, Nov., 2019.

The demonstrator SMB138Y was stayed with SMRT after the trial, however, it was forced to withdraw from revenue service in 2012 as a result of water damage to its electronics and finally deregistered in 2014. It was then re-bodied by Gemilang with Lion’s City Hybrid bodywork and then shipped to Australia. Part of the first batch of NL323 acquired by SMRT were used as training bus while a MAN NL323 (SMB222L) was scrapped in 2016 after involved with a traffic accident and the rear was damaged by fire.

MAN NL323 was a common sight in Singapore along with the Mercedes Benz Citaro and Scania K230UB and they were gradually turned to LTA lush green livery.
