Scania K230UB
長久以來，新加坡巴士公司都是以大型單層巴士作為主力，自八十年代中期開始，新加坡巴士公司先後向三間歐洲廠家引進近二千部單層巴士，當中包括德國平治O405，以及同樣來自瑞典的富豪B10M及Scania N113CRB。而踏入千禧年代，上述三款單層巴士主力都已經開始踏入遲暮之年，當時已經易名的新捷運亦開始著手引進新一代單層巴士，作為更新車隊之用。同樣地，新捷運先後向四家廠商訂購樣板巴士，計有富豪B7RLE，猛獅18.240，平治OC500LE，以及本文主角Scania K230UB。大概是因為成本問題，全數樣板巴士車身除了B7RLE由本地的順洲設計及裝配，都是由馬來西亞順豐設計及裝配，當中K230UB是四款巴士中最先投入服務。
新捷運在接收首架K230UB樣板車後，隨即訂購首批共五百架新車，全數符合歐盟四型排放標準，首批新車包括樣板車SBS8033D，於二零零七年十一月一日投入服務，行走174路線。Scania K230UB除了是新捷運首批，更加是新加坡首款可運載乘坐輪椅乘客的巴士。在車身方面，樣板車與量產型車身有所分別，最明顯的差異莫過於車頭車嘴設計，以及頭燈及指揮燈形狀。全數第一批K230UB空調系統除樣板車由開利超卓提供，其餘則採用日本電裝產品，至於電子路線牌箱則是Cool-Air出品。在這五百架新車中，首一百架連樣板車，前門後沒有任何座位，而隨後新車則於前門後加設一個座位，令總載客量多一人至八十八人。
隨著表現理想，新捷運於二零零八年再次向Scania招手，訂購四百架K230UB，車身仍舊選用順豐出品，不同於上批次是採用歐五排放標準引擎，因應車廂增加座位及減少一個輪椅停泊位後，總載客量回復至八十七人，同時空調系統供應商由日本電裝，變成樣板車採用的開利超卓，而電子路線牌亦改用Hanover出品。就在這批新車陸續付運予新捷運，新捷運於二零零九年購入最後一批二百部K230UB，並於二零一零年投入服務。隨著全數一千一百零一架Scania K230UB陸陸續續投入服務，基本上新加坡每個角落都會發現其蹤影，亦代表著原先的B10M，O405及N113CRB退下火線。至於另外三款同期用作測試的對手，平治OC500LE未嘗投入服務，其後更被轉售至私人公司，至於富豪及猛獅的樣板車雖然投入於車隊行走，但前者成為車隊中唯一一架B7RLE，後者更於稍後時間退回予代理商，未有像K230UB般取得任何訂單。
樣板車SBS8033D於二零一三年年底因交通意外，獨特車嘴組件被換成標準組件，另外SBS8900B因為於車廠發生交通意外，傷及底盤導致未能修復，成為首架退役K230UB。而在往後日子，當新捷運增購單層巴士時，訂單重回到平治手上。
The fleet of SBS Transit (previous known as Singapore Bus Service) was mainly composed of full-sized single decker since mid 80s. As the fleet become aging since 2000, SBS Transit started looking for successor of different single decker in the fleet around 2006 and 2007. Total 4 demonstrators were acquired, Volvo B7RLE with Soon Chow bodyworks and remaining 3 were bodied by Gemilang of Malaysia, MAN 18.240, Mercedes Benz OC500LE and Scania K230UB.
The first among 4 to be commissioned is the K230UB from Scania, SBS8033D, complied with Euro 4 emission standard and entered service on route 174 together with other members of the first batch of 500 K230UBs ordered. The Scania K230UB not only is the first wheelchair accessible bus in SBS transit but also the first in Singapore. There was a slightly difference between the appearance of the prototype and the production units. Rounded-shape headlights and indicator lights was fitted while SBS8033D, rectangular designed was chosen. Instead of the demonstrator using Carrier-Sutrak air conditioning from Germany, all first batch K230UBs cabin is air conditioned by Nippon Denso. Electronic route display supplied by Cool-Air was chosen and the first 100 of the batch, no seat provided behind the front door while the following samples carrying capacity increased from 87 to 88 passengers when additional seat placed after the entrance.
More and more Euro 5 standard K230UB entered service since 2009 after the success of the Euro 4 variants. This order of 400 samples was made in 2008 and bodyworks still assembled by Emailing, the interior is different from the Euro 4 K230UB, more seats offered while wheelchair parking bay reduced from two to one and 87 passengers can be carried resulted. To go one step further, Carrier-Sutra air conditioning and Hanover display can be observed on this batch of Scan ia K230UB. When this batch was undergoing delivery, a further and the last 200 K230UB were acquired by SBS Transit and started to deliver since 2010.
It is a common sight for finding a Scania K230UB in Singapore after all of them were entered service and the bus model mentioned above, B10M, O405 and N113CRB, were soon replaced by the K230UB. The other three single bus demonstrators acquired in 2007, only the B7RLE and MAN entered service with SBS Transit while the OC500LE, never joined the fleet before sold to Chitson Transport.
unfortunately, SBS8900B was withdrawn from the fleet after a serious accident in depot and the unique frontal grille of SBS8033D was replaced with a standard parts after a traffic accident in the end of 2013. When SBS Transit asked for new single decker afterwards, the order returned to Mercedes Benz.
