新大嶼山巴士(1973)有限公司 New Lantao Bus

長久以來大嶼山的巴士服務由新大嶼山巴士提供,這個情況一直到一九九七年青嶼幹線通車後才得以改變。往返市區及東涌新巿鎮,以及機場對外巴士服務由龍運及城巴提供,但島內的接駁服務還是要倚賴嶼巴,為了應付這個改變,嶼巴除了不斷購進新巴士,也同時改變站牌設計。

新大嶼山巴士車隊在早期由英國單層巴士作主力,計有道濟,金馬以至福特產品等,及後為應付假日大增的旅客人潮,先後購入十五架利蘭勝利二型雙層巴士,新車來源除了有從英國購進新車,也有從九巴購進當時車齡尚輕的二手車。而之後為了更新車隊,嶼巴向五十鈴購進單層巴士,在配以本地車身後便投入服務,同時亦為建立一支五十鈴車隊作了一個開始。在嶼巴服役的五十鈴巴士,不管屬於那個世代,其外觀跟在島外的同款車身旅遊巴士分別不大,只是多了一個路線牌箱而已。嶼巴在一九九二年一月被冠忠遊覽車有限公司收購後,除了車身色彩有一個一百八十度改變,車隊轉變更叫人感到精彩,隨著更多的五十鈴空調巴士加入,勝利二型陸續退下火線,部份更於一九九三年被轉售到城巴服役。而於假日,更多屬冠忠集團的旅遊車被徵調至島上接載旅客,以應付島上遊客需要。

為了應付東涌新巿鎮落成及新機場開幕,嶼巴把經營重心由嶼南的梅窩遷移到嶼北的東涌,並且重新設計站牌及開辦新路線。除了在建立公司形象上下功夫,在車隊上也作出一些改變,除了原有的五十鈴產品,也有專為機場路線而設的平治客車,以及車隊首款低地台巴士丹尼士飛鏢,當中飛鏢巴士更是因應嶼巴獨特經營環境,而改用大馬力引擎及手動變速箱,這亦是全港獨有的機械配搭。除了上述提的新車,冠忠巴士亦從集團內,抽調四架三菱Rosa小型巴士到嶼巴車隊中服役。

時至今日,冠忠巴士依然於假日對嶼巴提供協助,至於嶼巴車隊較從前又有一些改變。非空調的五十鈴巴士陸續退役,原有Rosa小巴也被後期的同款小巴取代,而更多新款五十鈴空調巴士加入嶼巴車隊,當中大部份是來自母公司冠忠集團的巴士,而飛鏢巴士則被調往行走東涌區內線,跟其他新購入及購自城巴的十二米德國猛獅單層低地台巴士,服務乘客。

二零零七年七月一日,是香港回歸中國十周年的日子,對嶼巴而言,還是一個重要里程碑,由這天開始,嶼巴服務範圍再不局限於小島上,當日起首條完全不服務大嶼山地區的巴士路線,往返元朗西鐵站及深圳灣口岸的B2投入服務。同一時間,車隊亦出現新面孔,包括購自城巴的富豪B6LE,來自冠忠集團其他子公司的猛獅,以及,符合歐盟四型排放標準的德國猛獅新車。隨著新東涌道於二零零九年二月六日通車,道路環境進一步改善,嶼巴進一步安排來自冠忠集團的猛獅巴士,川梭往還東涌及嶼南的路線上,同時代表著往日五十鈴巴士作為車隊主力的日子,一去不復返了。

嶼巴於二零一零年引進產自國內的青年大型低地台巴士,成為全港首家引進國內城巿巴士的專利巴士公司,隨著第二批為數五架青年大型巴士加入車隊,亦正式替英國製造單層巴士服務嶼巴車隊的歲月作一個終結。在雙層巴士闊別嶼巴車隊接近二十年後,嶼巴車隊再次出現雙層巴士,兩架原行走城巴機場快線的丹尼士三叉戟,於二零一四年三月正式加入嶼巴車隊,同時代表丹尼士這名字再次存活於車隊之中。畢竟來自城巴的三叉戟已經有一定車齡,加上落實使用雙層巴士行走往返深圳灣口岸B2系路線,嶼巴於是招標購買一批全新雙層巴士,有關合約最後由猛獅奪得,供應旗下的A95雙層低地台巴士予嶼巴。嶼巴在往後時間增購更多同型號巴士,除了行走B2系路線,亦用作加強東涌新市鎮服務,以及應付港珠澳大橋通車後開辦接駁路線所需。

至於大嶼山南部,儘管早年低地台飛鏢巴士,以及二零一五年的猛獅RC2低地台單層巴士,行走嶼南地區時,未見取得成功,使到嶼南道上鮮有出現低地台巴士蹤影,但因應梅窩居屋屋苑發展項目所帶來的額外人口,嶼巴二零一七年向亞歷山大丹尼士訂購十四架Enviro400雙層低地台巴士,用作行走往返東涌市中心及梅窩碼頭的3M線,亦是早年勝利二型之後,再次有雙層巴士行走於嶼南道上,首架Enviro400新車已於二零一八年六月運抵本港。

The bus service on Lantau Island was only provided by New Lantao Bus Co. until the opening of Lantau Link in 1997. Long Win Bus and City Bus started to provide external bus service linking the Tung Chung New Town and the Airport, while NLB still play a significant role on internal bus service within the Lantau. To cope with the change, NLB upgraded their fleet with more and more air-conditioned buses and a new style of the bus stop sign was introduced. 

The fleet of NLB initially composed of England made single deckers including the Dodge, Commers and Ford. Between 1980 and 1991, total 15 Leyland Victory MK 2 double decker from Leyland and KMB was joined NLB for the high patronage in public holidays. The era of Isuzu started in the mid 1980swhen the first 4 Isuzu single decker with local made bodyworks acquired. The appearance of the Isuzu buses in NLB fleet was similar to the coach outside the island with the most significant differences, a route indicator box fitted.

After acquired by Kwoon Chung Motors, the livery of NLB was changed together with the alternation of fleet. More and more Isuzu air-conditioned buses were delivered and the Victory withdrawn from the fleet and some of them started their new life with City Bus. During holidays, Kwoon Chung deployed coaches to Lantau to cater the demand brought by the tourists.

Benefited from the Tung Chung New Town and New Airport development project, NLB further expand it networks and more resources were deployed on Northern Lantau area. To cope with the change, 4 Mercedes Benz coach and 3 Dennis Dart SLF with Plaxton Pointer bodyworks were joined the fleet for the airport route. The Dart in NLB featured with with manual gearbox and more powerful engine which is the the unique combination in Hong Kong. Moreover, Kwoon Chung also transferred 4 Mitsubishi Rosa minibuses to NLB for operation on route 34 to and from Shek Mun Kap. 

Kwoon Chung still keep deploying coaches on Lantau during holidays as a support to NLB routes and the fleet of NLB got some changes, the non air-con Isuzu single decker were replaced by other Isuzu air-con buses which mainly were transferred from Kwoon Chung. After withdrawn from the Airport service, the Dart was serving Tung Chung internal routes together with the German made MAN super low floor single deckers.

1 Jul, 2007, the 10th anniversary of the handover of Hong Kong to China, also is a milestone for NLB as the first route serving outside the Lantau, route B2 operated between Yuen Long West Rail Station and Shenzhen Bay port, commenced into service on the same day. As for the need of operation, Volvo B6LE from City Bus, MAN from Kwoon Chung Motors and the brand new Euro 4 emission standard MAN single decker joined NLB at the same time. Since the road conditions was improved after the opening of new section of Tung Chung Road on 6 Feb., 2009, more and more MAN which transferred from Kwoon Chung Motors allocated on the routes between Tung Chung and the Southern Lantau and indicated the era of Isuzu as the mainstream was came to an end.

NLB made another record in the history of Hong Kong franchised buses in 2010, a batch of 9 YoungMan JNP6122GR full-sized super low floor single deckers were introduced which is the first franchised bus made in the mainland. The age of buses from UK serving NLB was temporarily suspended after the arrival of 5 more YoungMans in Aug., 2011 until the delivered of two Dennis Trident from City Bus in Mar., 2014, the first double decker of NLB after the retired of the Leyland Victory Mk 2.The second hand Trident was already 16 years old when joined NLB, to go one step further, B2-series route was proposed to convert into double decker operation, a tender for new double decker was made and MAN successfully gained this purchasing order with supplying their MAN A95 to NLB. Repeated order was made afterwards not only for the strengthen the the Shenzhen Bay service, but also for the use in the Tung Chung and HKZM Bridge shuttle service.

Though it was not a successful experience for deploying super low floor bus in Southern Lantau, as expected there will be increased in resident after completion of the House Ownership Scheme in Mui Wo, NLB placed an order for 14 Alexander Dennis Enviro400 double decker in 2017 and the first of the batch was delivered in Jun., 2018. After all the Enviro400 ready, the fleet of route 3M plying between Mui Wo and Tung Chung will be converted into double decker and this is the fist time for double decker serving the Southern Lantau after the Leyland Victory Mk 2.
