新福利自二零一一年八月新的巴士營運模式生效以來,為配合營運需要及更新車隊而購買新巴士時候,除了集中於採購大型單層巴士,以及曾向三菱購買歐四及歐五版本Rosa小巴外,一直未見有引入全新的中型巴士,直到二零一七年向海格購買KLQ6108GQE5新車時候,一併引入二十五架KLQ6960GQE5中型巴士。

海格中型巴士在新福利車隊而言絕非新鮮事,打從二零零七年開始,新福利便向海格一口氣購入五十架KLQ6930G巴士,以取代部份Rosa小巴,藉此增強車隊運載能力。新福利隨後於二零零九年再加訂十架歐三版本的KLQ6930GE3,這批新車亦成為巴士營運新模式實行之前,車隊最後引入的海格新車。至於這次新福利購入的KLQ6960GQE5,比對早年的海格中型巴士,最大分別在於這批新車是低地台設計,加上車廂預留有輪椅停泊位置,能夠全面滿足傷健人士需要。至於機械配搭方面,新福利在這一批新車上,以及同時引入的海格大型單層巴士上,改為選擇國產濰柴引擎,未有再選用康明斯的出品,並且完全符合歐盟五型排放標準。

另外值得一提是,因應颱風天鴿對車隊造成不同程度損壞,為了使到巴士服務能夠儘快回復正常,本批海格新車於抵澳完成一切驗車程序後,甫一出牌便悉數投入服務,以代替在風災中待修或報銷的巴士。至於車廂佈局方面,新福利再次採用二加二座位設計,令到KLQ6960GQE5合共運載六十一名乘客,當中包括二十三個座位,載客量較雙門版三菱Rosa小巴多近百分之七十五。

憑藉短小車身及相對高載客量,海格KLQ6960GQE5迅即取替了三菱Rosa在往返筷子基北灣及路環市區的26號路線的地位,除了26,4及39號路線亦被換上了款海格中型巴士作為主力車型,前者取代了短陣版的低地台丹尼士飛鏢,後者則取代了海格KLQ6930GE3。

Full-sized single decker and minibus both were the first priority for new buses acquired by Transmac since the implement of new bus operation mode in Aug., 2011. In 2017, We saw Transmac took the delivery of Higer KLQ6960GQE5 midibus together with the KLQ6108GQE5 full-sized single decker.

Before the introduction of KLQ6960GQE5, Transmac once operated a good number of Higer midibus which introduced in 2007 and 2009 respectively to enhance the carrying capacity of the fleet and as a replacement of the Rosa minibus. Higer KLQ6960GQE5 is different from the Higer midibus in the past, it is wheelchair accessible with parking bay reserved within the cabin. In addition, all of them were fitted with an Euro 5 Weichai engine instead of Cummins engine used to choose on other Higer bus in the fleet.

As the fleet was serious damaged during the super typhoon Hato, all Higer new buses were soon entered service after delivery to Macau and completed all essential registration process to help keeping the bus service to be normal. Transmac adapted 2+2 seating arrangement again with 23 seatings plus 38 standees provided within the KLQ6960GQE5 compartment and when compared to the Mitsubishi Rosa, the latter only can carry 35 passengers.

With their good maneuverability and relative high carrying capacity, Higer KLQ6960GQE5 soon took the place of Mitsubishi Rosa on route 26 plying between Bacia Norte Do Patane and Mercado M. De Coloane. In addition, they were the common sight on route 4 and 39 used to serve by Dennis Dart Super Low Floor 10m and Higer KLQ6930GE3 respectively.
