新世界第一巴士 New World First Bus

新世界第一巴士服務有限公司,成立於一九九八年初,由香港新世界創建有限公司及英國三大巴士集團之一,第一集團的合營公司,以競投港島區八十八條原由中華巴士公司經營的巴士路線。經過投標後,政府將有關專營權於同年三月三十一日交予新巴,並由九月一日開始投入服務。

在只有短短半年籌備時間,新巴獲得母公司第一集團支持,以及其他方面的配合,得以順利接手經營有關巴士服務。當新巴接營中巴路線時,正值香港巴士步入低地台及空調化年代,新巴作為一個全新專利巴士營運商,由中巴手上接管其車隊同時,亦訂下購入五百架全新低地台空調巴士,以替換當時車隊中來自中巴的非空調巴士,大大提高巴士服務質素。當時在巿場上發展成熟的雙層低地台巴士車型,就只有丹尼士三叉戟,這亦促成了新巴車隊,不同長度的三叉戟穩佔一席位,當中以十點三米矮車身版本三叉戟最為特別,這是為行走山頂,赤柱及石澳路線而特別訂購。

新巴除了一九九八年獲得港島區巴士專營權外,一九九九年十一月,新巴再度獲得政府頒予將軍澳南巴士服務,並於二零零零年開始提供服務,進一步擴展服務範圍。除了將軍澳,政府於二零零二年將西九龍新發區巴士服務公開投標,最終亦由新巴投得並陸續於二零零三年開始投入服務。二零零四年,新巴與昆明巿公共汽車總公司合營昆明新巴,從而把業務擴展到中國國內。

第一集團早於二零零零年把其手上新巴股份全數售回新世界創建有限公司,自此之後新巴再沒有任何來自英國的影響力。二零零二年新巴除了山纜車接駁路線15C仍然提供有非空調巴士服務,其餘路線均是全空調服務,隨著最後一架丹尼士禿鷹非空調開蓬巴士於二零零八年被另一架空調版禿鷹取代,15C亦提供全空調服務。二零零九年十月十八日,新巴開辦兩條專利遊覽路線H1及H2,採用五架開蓬富豪奧林比安空調巴士行走,並包裝成「人力車巴士」,為專利巴士服務寫下新的一頁。

隨著母公司周大福企業於二零零三年六月九日成功收購城巴,新巴本身跟昔日對手城巴成為姊妹公司,目前兩間公司同屬於新創建交通服務有限公司。

在得到政府資助下,新巴進行招標購買油電驅動混能及純電動巴士,率先投入服務是亞歷山大丹尼士的E50H,於二零一四年十一月投入服務。而來自中國的比亞迪及華神龍,則成功奪得建造電動單層巴士相關合約,其中比亞迪向新巴提供的兩架單層電動巴士,於二零一五年十一月底交付,隨後於十二月尾完成出牌及車長訓練等程序之後,分別安排於78及81路線上作營運測試。

Established in 1998 for tender 88 routes used to operate by China Motor Bus, New World First Bus was a joint venture between New World Services Limited in HK and First Bus Group, one of the three leading bus operator group in UK. NWFB was awarded this tender from the government on 31, Mar., 1998 and commenced on 1, Sept., 1998.

Though the preparation time was only half an year, NWFB still can manage to take over the bus routes from CMB. As the newest bus operator at that time, NWFB ordered 500 new buses for upgrading the service standard and as a replacement for the non air-con buses from CMB. Within these 500 new buses, most of them were supplied by Dennis since only it can provide a mature and reliable product of super low floor double decker during the early stage of NWFB establishment. You can find all variants of Dennis Trident 3-axle in the fleet and among these, the 10.3m version was specially designed for the routes serving the Peak, Stanley and Shek O featured with low-bridge bodywork.

NWFB was then awarded bus service of Southern Tseung Kwan O and the development area of Western Kowloon in 1999 and 2002 respectively. All service started to operate in 2000 and 2003 and further expanded the networks of NWFB. Instead of Hong Kong, NWFB also operated bus service in mainland China. Kuming NWFB entered service in Jan., 2004, this was a joint venture between NWFB and Kuming Bus General Company.

There was no more influence from First Group as all it shares was sold to NWS in 2000. All NWFB routes were fully air-conditioned with 15C was an exception since 2002. In 2008, when the Dennis Condor open-top was replaced by another air-conditioned Dennis Condor open-top, 15C become the last NWFB route to be converted to full air-conditioned operation. NWFB first introduced two franchised sightseeing routes H1 and H2 and branded as "Rickshaw Sightseeing Bus" on 18, Oct., 2009. 5 Volvo Olympian air-con were converted to open-top and deployed on these two services.

The relationships among City Bus and NWFB changed from competitors to sister company after Chow Tai Fook Enterprise, the parent company of NWFB, acquired City Bus on 9, Jun., 2003. At present, Both bus operators are members of NWS Transport.

Under the sponsorship from HKSAR Government, NWFB tendered for diesel-electric hybrid double decker and electric single decker for evaluation in 2014. Alexander Dennis first supplied a E50H and commissioned in Nov., 2014. BYD together with GDEV successfully awarded the tender of supplying the electric single decker. Within this tender, BYD supplied a pair of K9R electric bus and delivered in the end of Nov., 2015. The NWFB BYD electric bus started it revenue evaluation on route 78 and 81 in the end of Dec., 2015 after completed all essential registration and training process.
