經過兩年多試驗,九巴於二零零八年正式落實訂購歐盟四型巴士,當中三十架是單層巴士,而新車是來自瑞典的Scania K230UB。

是批新車共有兩款長度,當中長十點六米佔二十架,而餘下十架則是長十二米。全數新車配用葡萄牙Caetano雙門設計車身,空調系統跟港鐵亞歷山大丹尼士飛鏢E200型一樣,由日本電裝提供。至於電子路線牌,則是由Gorba供應。Scania K230UB跟零七年投入九巴車隊的K310UD一樣,採用引擎廢氣再循環技術(EGR),令到廢氣排放能夠符合歐盟四型廢氣排放標準。在車身配置上,不論是短陣還是長陣版,都設定一個多用途區域作停放輪椅及企位之用,這亦是早已成為香港超低地台巴士一個標準,而早於「超直巴士」出現的外趟式中門,亦安裝於全數新車上。九巴這批新車車身較特別的地方是,車尾完全沒有任何車窗,這在香港專利巴士上還是首次。為加強乘客安全,車尾最後排的中間座位,以及車頭第二排外邊座位均加設安全帶。另外,Scania K230UB再一次採用後門閉路電視,以便車長監察乘客落車安全。

首批長十點六米新車於二零零九年二月初到港,而當中首架新車隨後於二月二十五日進行驗車,並於二零零九年四月二日取得車牌(編號NT8619),車隊編號ASB1,隸屬於荔枝角廠,十點六米版新車共有二十八個座位,並容納四十位企位乘客。在出牌初期,ASB1主要巡迴於各區,用作路面測試及訓練車長之用,未有派出服務乘客。伴隨更多新車出牌投入服務,ASB1聯同ASB2及ASB3於二零零九年五月二十四日投入往返又一村及尖沙咀的2C循環路線,取代原有的雙層巴士服務乘客。至於十二米版本新車,首架於零九年三月十五日到港,先後於四月三日及五月十一日被安排前往驗車中心驗車。第一架十二米Scania K230UB新車,ASC1(NV7050)於二零零九年六月十二日出牌,並編入沙田廠。相對十點六米新車,十二米Scania K230UB共可運載八十一名乘客,當中包括三十六個座位及四十五個企位,亦成為目前九巴車隊中,運載能力最高的單層巴士車款。

伴隨著新車悉數投入服務,好些低客量路線獲編配新車,使有限資源得以更有效運用同時,亦提高了路線服務質素。目前,ASB除了上述2C外,主要行走東九龍區5D及7M,荃葵區30及46,以及北區的73K及273。而自二零零九年九月開始,十點六米版Scania K230UB亦會於14S路線服務時間,行走該線,成為三菱MK型巴士之外,另一款適合行走該線的巴士車款。至於首架服務乘客的十二米版本K230UB是ASC6,於二零零九年七月四日首航N691線,但只行走了一天。之後直到了二零零九年七月十八日,才再有ASC新巴士派出服務乘客,途經大埔公路路線74A,由當天開始獲分派到兩架ASC新車服務乘客,隨後同樣行走大埔公路的72A亦獲分配ASC新巴士。

因應路線發展需要,九巴再加訂二十架十二米版本的K230UB,當中包括一架符合歐五排放標準新車(車隊編號ASCU1),並且於二零零九年九月十七日到港,是批新車跟早前訂單又有一些不同,除了採用Hanover電子路線牌,並將車尾路線牌箱設於車頂位置外,還包括車廂座椅由ASB及上一批ASC採用的Vogelsitze產品,改為Fainsa出品。這批新車陸陸續續於二零零九年十二月至二零一零年一月投入服務,並安排行走24,81M,263M,273,273B及276B等路線。時至今日,九巴於二零一六年二月對外招標出售車隊中的四十架單層巴士,當中包括Scania K230UB,唯到六月中仍然未見這批巴士退役及轉售到其他營運商中。目前要尋找K230UB巴士,可以於東九龍區的10及28B,石硤尾區的2D,沙田區82K及281M,新界北區的73A及275R,以及元朗區的54,251A及251B路線看到他們的蹤影

KMB placed an order of 30 Euro 4 emission standard single deckers, Scania K230UB from Sweden, after the two years trial on Euro 4 buses from different manufacturers.

20 of the batch are 10.6m in length while remaining are 12m in length and bodyworks from Caetano in Portugal were chosen. As the ADL Enviro200Dart in MTR Bus Division, air-conditioning unit supplied by Nippon Denso. Gorba is the supplier of the electronic route display. Exhaust Gas Recirculation technology adapted in K310UD also chosen to ensure the emission complied with the Euro 4 standard. There are a spacious room assigned on all K230UBs for wheelchair accommodation or standees which is become a standard for super low floor bus in Hong Kong. Plug door was also fitted as exit and the most outstanding feature is no window at the rear which is the first time in the history of Hong Kong franchised buses. In addition, to enhance safety of passengers, two seats at the middle of the last row and the outside of second row were fitted with seat belts. Circuit television at the exit helps bus captain monitoring the safety of passengers.

The first batch of 10.6m model were arrived in early Feb., 2009 and undergone type approval test on 25, Feb., 2009. The first of them was registered as NT8619 (fleet no. ASB1), with 28 seatings plus 40 standees, on 2, Apr., 2009. ASB1 was assigned to Lai Chi Kok depot and used for both driver training and route testing instead of passengers service for a month after registration . The first 3 samples (ASB1-3) were deployed on 2C (circular route between Yau Yat Tsuen and Tsim Sha Tsui) to replace the original double decker from 24, May, 2009.

Those K230UB 12m were arrived on 15, Mar and were arranged to receive their first and second type approval tests on 3, Apr. and 11, May, 2009 respectively. The first Scania K230UB 12m, ASC1, was registered as NV7050 on 12, Jun., 2009. The total capacity of ASC was 81 passengers with 36 seatings and 45 standees. The Scania K230UB leave a new record in KMB fleet, the single decker carrying the most passengers in KMB fleet. The first Scania K230UB 12m entered service was ASC6 working on N691 on 4, Jul., 2009, but served for one day only. The first route scheduled with Scania K230UB 12m is 74A, two ASCs were assigned to 74A since 18, Jul., 2009. From 20, Jul., 2009, 72A received two ASCs to replace the original non air-con buses. Both 72A and 74A serving the passengers alongside the Tai Po Road.

KMB deployed all Scania 230UBs on various low-demand routes to ensure the limited resources can be used in a more effective way. The service standard of these following routes can also be upgraded like 5D, 7M, 24, 30, 46, 73K and 273. In addition, since Sep., 2009, KMB deployed the Scania K230UB 10.6m on route 14S which used to only serve by the Mitsubishi MK midibuses.

KMB placed an additional order of 20 K230UB 12m (including a Euro 5 example, fleet no. ASCU1) for the development need in the future. This batch of K230UBs started to delivered and the first arrived on 17, Sep., 2009. There were some modifications like Hanover electronic route display chosen instead of Groba on the previous order and the rear route indicator was relocated at the top of the rear. Fainsa seats was chosen on this batch of K230UB instead of the Vogelsitze on the previous order. All these K230UBs started to serve routes like 24, 81M, 263M, 273, 273B and 276B since Dec., 2009.

In Feb., 2016, KMB tendered for selling 40 single deckers includes the Scania K230UB, however, until the mid. of Jun., 2016, there is no ASB-class or ASC-class retired from the fleet. It is easy to take a ride on Scania K230UB on route 2D, 10, 28B, 54, 73A, 82K, 251A, 251B, 275R and 281M.
