愉景灣與德國猛獅車廠長久的合作關係,始於二零零零年,為了配合開辦愉景灣至東涌巿中心及機場的路線,五架猛獅NL262大型低地台巴士及兩架13.220客車,被引進到愉景灣,並成為繼同樣來自德國的平治及英國丹尼士之後,車隊的第三家歐洲品牌。自此之後,每當需要購入新巴士作更新車隊及擴展服務時,猛獅都能取得訂單,亦令愉景灣漸漸成為一個猛獅巴士集中地,吸引巴士迷前來尋找及乘坐不同的猛獅巴士型號。

二零零六年,愉景灣車隊出現了一款全新的大型猛獅單層巴士:A84,這架A84雖說是猛獅出品,但郤並非像早年愉景灣購入的同廠出品一樣來自德國。這裡要先說有關猛獅跟中國的一個故事,為了替產品打入中國巿場,不少外國車廠會跟國內一些車廠合作,其中猛獅跟位於鄭洲的宇通車廠合資成立了猛獅客車,除了利用猛獅技術開發新底盤,更重要會利用原廠猛獅部件,在國內裝配成型。而愉景灣這次購入的A84底盤,正正是由國內猛獅客車利用原廠組件組裝而成。

車身方面,這輛A84亦不是再由歐洲車廠包辦,而是較早時間購入行走機場路線的猛獅18.310車身供應商,來自馬來西亞的順豐提供,自此之後,愉景灣購入的猛獅巴士,順豐亦成為了指定車身供應商。而車廂內部貫徹愉景灣車隧的標準,設有大型行李架,全車可運載六十八名乘客,但當中三十七人未能享有座位。對比其他德國原廠製造的NL系成員,A84未能提供全低地台車廂,低地台區域到了車廂中部便告終止。

這架猛獅A84在投入服務後主要安排行走區內路線,未曾行走對外路線,目前主要服務C9路線,雖然外表上跟其他同配順豐車身猛獅低地台巴士沒有太大分別,但憑著其與別不同的背景,在愉景灣車隊中依然顯得別樹一幟。

The long-term relationships between Discovery Bay and MAN of Germany since the opening of the Discovery Bay Tunnel in 2000. As to provide service between Discovery Bay and Tung Chung Town Centre and the Airport, 5 MAN NL262s and 2 MAN 13.220 coaches were acquired respectively. MAN soon become the mainstream of DBTSL fleet and another European manufacturer after Mercedes Benz and Dennis.

Before talking about the MAN A84 of DBTSL, it should be had a brief introduction of Lions Bus. Lions Bus is joint venture of MAN and Yutong in China, as a result of making easier to enter the mainland market. Lions Bus not only developed their own product with the help of technique provided by MAN, but also assembling the MAN chassis from parts imported from Germany locally. Though MAN A84 was assembled by Lions Bus, it is under the product range of MAN and still carried MAN brand name instead of Lions Bus and made a contrast to those Lions Bus in Park Island fleet.

The bodywork fitted on this A84 is Gemilang, a Malaysian bodybuilder and already supplied two sets of bodyworks on the MAN 18.310 of DBTSL deployed on the airport service. Gemilang was successfully become the main body supplier for all MAN chassis purchased afterwards. Luggage rack is provided and only 31 passengers can have a seat within the compartment that can carry 68 passengers. Unliked the NL-series, the low floor area ended at the centre exit as different mechanical design was applied.

It can be only seen this MAN A84 within Discovery Bay as it was never served any external routes since registered. With it different background, this unique MAN A84 now mainly serving route C9.
