中文大學校巴 Shuttle Bus Of CUHK

香港中文大學,一所世界知名的大學,於一九六三年創立,初期是由三所書院:崇基,新亞及聯合書院所組成。其後逸夫書院於一九八六年成立,成為中大第四間書院。隨著校園發展,中大增加五所新書院, 分別是晨興,善衡,敬文,伍宜孫及和聲書院。

中文大學位處馬料水,面積達一百三十四公頃,基本設施除了教學大樓,還包括圖書館,各個行政辦公大樓,學生教職員宿舍,以及訪客賓館等。由於佔地廣闊,加上本身中大獨處一角,對外交通主要依賴港鐵,但連接校園內不同部份及各大書院,主要落在校巴服務身上。中大校巴由中文大學交通組負責營運,校巴服務主要提供每十五分鐘或二十分鐘一班車,聯同轉堂校巴及接駁校巴,提供最高達到五分鐘一班的接駁服務。在過往日子,教學日乘搭校巴是免費,暑假期間,除了參與暑期課程的同學,其他乘客則需收取一元車費,而星期日及公眾假期車費為五元正。自零七年開始,中大校巴不再收取費用。

中大校巴特色在於,本身巴士跟在港行走的旅遊巴外貌無異,但由於保護校園清新環境,加上由於中大校園氣候清涼,所有校巴全數為非空調設計,以貫徹「愛護校園,支持環保」的理念。為了提供高載客量,以及加快乘客上落,車身是雙門設計及設有企位。在之前,中大校巴除了有五十鈴產品,更有英國百福產品,而這些校巴均是前置引擎設計,車身款式除了捷聯,還包括亞洲出品。最後一架退役的前置引擎設計校巴是FJ2476,配用亞洲車身,於二零零五年年中退役。

第一架後置引擎設計的中大校巴是GN3504,同樣配亞洲車身,只此一架,此車已經於二零零七年八月退役。隨後的四架後置引擎校巴(GX4854,GX8284,HV6055及JD8769)則配用新亞車身,而目前校巴車隊中,以配用捷聯車身為主,首架裝配捷聯車身的後置引擎五十鈴為KR7442。於二零零八年七月,中大接收兩架校巴,首次配用中港車身(NK4632及NL470),以替代兩架舊款新亞車身校巴。另外,在新款的校巴上,已經增設落車鐘供乘客通知司機要於下一站落車,但由於基本上所有校巴都會停泊所有車站,所以有關設備形同虛設。

除了一般穿梭校巴,中文大學尚有轉堂校巴及穿梭小巴服務,前者主要在上學日為同學提供免費接駁服務,後者則是由帶有空調設備的小巴,於星期一至六(公眾假期外)提供穿梭服務,而且不論是否學生及職員,乘客均需繳付五元車資。所有轉堂校巴均會於學校假期期間停開,直到新學期為止。至於穿梭小巴服務,則因牌照相關條例問題,由過往中大交通組派車行走改為外判予其他旅遊巴公司營運,而原有的小巴車隊,則改為接載來賓及借予保安組使用。

二零一二年九月,因應大學雙軌年,中大校巴重整路線,昔日沒有編號的路線重組成不同編號的路線,穿梭校園不同部份。隨著最後一架新亞車身的五十鈴校巴退役,中大校巴目前營運的的五十鈴巴士皆配捷聯車身及中港車身,在專利巴士全面空調化後,中文大學校巴成為本港碩果僅存,仍然營運非空調巴士的載客車隊。

二零一四年三月五日,兩架於二零一一年透過環境保護處綠色運輸試驗基金購買的五洲龍電動空調巴士(SM5263及SM5323),正式投入服務,取代了首兩架捷聯車身五十鈴後置引擎校巴(KR7442及KS617),但由於未能完全適應校內道路及營運環境,需於代理進行維修及作進一步調校,最終在半年之後重新投入服務。

踏入二零一五年,中文大學校巴車隊再有新變化,隨著舊有的五十鈴車隊陸續退役,接替的新車將會是配有空調設備,首架裝有中港單門車身的五十鈴空調校巴(TM4908),已經於二零一五年六月底完成裝配及進行驗車,並趕及一五年新學期開始前投入服務,取代一架捷聯車身的五十鈴校巴(LD3760)。

在首架五十鈴空調校巴投入服務之後,中大仍然持續進行更新校巴車隊,向德國猛獅車廠訂購三架RR2底盤,亦成為車隊中首款配全自動波箱的校巴,首架(UP1460)於二零一六年十二月初,在佛山飛馳車廠完成裝配由中港車身製造廠設計,中飛之星雙門車身空調車身的新車正式交付予中大,完成驗車程序及車廂內部作出一些必要修改後,隨於二零一七年二月初出牌,並於二月中正式投入服務。隨後兩架新車(UR8867及UT6853)於二月底運抵本港,分別於三月及四月投入服務,進一步加強空調校巴陣容。

不幸地,全數校巴於二零一九年十一月的社會事件中遭受嚴重破壞,兩架五洲龍電動巴士及全數五十鈴校巴事後未能修復而被逼退役。其餘三架猛獅空調校巴則於進行維修後,被安排只於繁忙時間作支援角色之用。至於本先用作車隊替換,總數共七架配Marcopolo車身Scania K320IB4x2NB校巴(當中包括一架單門車身版本),則在完成最後階段測試以及訓練程序後,自二零二零年三月下旬開始投入服務。為了彌補退役校巴的空缺,中大再訂購四架Marcopolo雙門版本車身Scania K320IB4x2NB校巴,並趕及二零二零年九月之前投入服務,同時中文大學再向Scania訂購兩架配單門版Marcopolo車身的同型新車,進一步使校巴車隊標準化。

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), one of the famous university in the world, established with Chung Chi, New Asia and United College in 1963. In 1986, Shaw College established and become the fourth college of CUHK. Five more colleges were added including Morningside College , S.H. Ho College , C.W. Chu College , Wu Yee Sun College and Lee Woo Sing College as a result of the University development.

CUHK is located at Ma Liu Shui. The stunning 134-hectare campus composed of different teaching buildings, libraries, administration buildings, student hostels, staff quarters and guest houses. Since the stunning campus is separated from the town, external transport mainly relied on MTR while within the campus, responsible by the shuttle school bus managed by the University Transport Unit. The shuttle bus service is mainly operated with frequency of 15 or 20 minutes between MTR University Station. The shuttle service will be enhanced up to every 5 minutes together with meet-class bus during weekdays morning peak hours. Before 2007, except for school days, visitors (except those summer course students) need to pay $1 for the shuttle service in summer holidays. While during Sundays and public holidays within the whole year, the shuttle bus fare was $5. At present, there is no need to pay for riding on the school shuttle bus within CUHK.

The fleet of CUHK shuttle bus was based on Isuzu from Japan and Bedford from UK in the early days. All of them are front-engined and with dual-door designed bodies from local builders Jit Luen and Asia Auto and as a result, their appearance almost the same with the coach in Hong Kong . As a response to have a greener campus, all shuttle buses are non air-conditioned and standees were allowed on the shuttle bus as to provide a high carrying capacity.

The last front-engined shuttle bus is FJ2476 and the first rear-engined shuttle bus is GN3504. Both of them were fitted with Asia Auto bodyworks and already withdrawn from service in mid. of 2005 and Jul., 2007 respectively. Afterwards, four more samples was entered service with Sun Ah bodyworks (GX4854, GX8284, HV6055 and JD8769). KR7442 is the first rear-engined Isuzu bodied by Jit Luen and this was become the standard in the fleet until the introduction of two China Kong bodies sample entered service in July, 2008 as a replacement of the pair of older Isuzu with Sun Ah bodyworks. It is interesting that all shuttle buses have "bus-stop" bells installed, however, since the shuttle bus will stop all mid-way bus stops, the bell become a decoration only.

There are also meet-class bus and shuttle light bus in CUHK. The meet class bus is running on school days to provide a free feeder service to student . The shuttle light bus is provided by air-conditioned minibuses from Monday to Saturday (except public holidays) and the fare is $5 . The shuttle light bus service is now provided by other coach company as a result of the regulation posed by the license. The minibuses used to serve on the service before was then transferred to the CUHK security unit or as a guest shuttle.

As the new "3+3+4" academic structure implemented in Sep., 2012, the route networks of CUHK shuttle bus was amended to cope with the demand. Under the new networks, different routes would be identified with different numbers (there were no any route numbers for all shuttle services before 3 Sep., 2012) and passengers can choose the most suitable service for their destinations easily. As no more conventional bus service provided on the franchised routes, the CUHK shuttle bus become the only conventional bus fleet that serving the public in Hong Kong.

Two Wuzhoulong electric buses (SM5263 and SM5323) were acquired under the Pilot Green Transport Fund offered by Environmental Protection Department in 2011. the electric bus started to serve commuters on 5 Mar., 2014 and took the role of KR7442 and KS617. Unfortunately, their performance considered as unsatisfactory under the road conditions and operating environment of the University, they were sent back to the dealer for adjustment and improvement works. Finally, the electric bus returned to service on 8 Sep., 2014.

We can see a dramatic change in the fleet of CUHK shuttle in 2015 with the first diesel powered air conditioned school bus entering service. This is a Isuzu with single door China Kong Pioneer bodywork (TM4908) and it was completed and undergone approval tests in the end of Jun., 2015. Finally this first Isuzu air conditioned school bus commissioned before the new semester of 2015 and the Jit Luen bodied Isuzu school bus LD3760 was replaced.

Fleet renewal programme still undergoing with three China Kong bodyworks MAN RR2 were ordered. All MAN RR2 received their Pioneer II bodywork designed by China Kong at the plant of Foshan Feichi at Yunfu, China. The first MAN RR2 (UP1460) delivered in Dec., 2016 and after a series of testing and modification works, registered in early Feb., 2017 and started to serve commuters within CUHK campus since mid. of Feb., 2017. The remaining RR2 (UR8867 and UT6853) were entered service in Mar., and Apr., 2017 respectively.

It was so sad that all school buses were serious damaged and the Wuzhoulong electric bus together with all Isuzu school buses were beyond to repair after the social event in Nov., 2019. Tthe remaining air-conditioned MAN school bus were only assigned support duties during rush hours after undergoing repair. A batch of 7 Marcopolo bodied Scania K320IB4x2NB (included a sole single doorway sample) originally as a part of fleet renewal were delivered and entered service since the end of Mar., 2020. A further delivery of 4 Marcopolo dual doorways bodywork Scanias was made before Sep., 2020 to substitute the vacancy of the retired school bus.
